i have been ridiculously lacking in the blogging and etsy department for a year. depressing. i think its high time to bring it back.

lemme catch everyone up on what has happened in the past year. so dave and i got married. in a fabulously, fabulous handmade/DIY wedding. it was the most amazing wedding we could have hoped for. it was completely us, and even looking back a year later, dave and i have talked about it, and we would not do a single thing different. (i will do a dedicated blog post soon.)

first dance to monte montgomery "romeo & juliet". so sweet.

we headed off to new orleans for our honeymoon, which was the best week of my life. i have no words for how amazing the honeymoon was. the most delicious cajun food, cafe du monde trips, cemetary and haunted tours and just soaking up the rich history was life changing. we even got tattoos. im obsessed. if i wasnt planning on having kids, i would move to new orleans in a heartbeat.

breakfast at brennans. hands down the best meal we have ever had.

the holidays came and went and dave got a job offer working for an engineering firm here in the dallas area. so here we are. living blissfully in rockwall with my millions of craft projects. there is one thing about rockwall, it definitely makes us want to have babies ASAP. the school systems here are phenomenal and everything here is so family friendly. so who knows what the new year will bring...

but the best news is, dave has been helping and putting in his creative ideas when im crafting so its turned into a pretty great collaboration. for example, here are three of my favorite latest crafts...

i wanted to attempt a yarn wreath and here is the final result.
of course we added a cute little reindeer to make it "more manly".

i wanted to make a vintage paper wreath and dave upped the awesomeness
by helping turn it into a functional clock and he made the hands out of
cardboard to keep with the paper/recycled feel.

finally got around to making a shadowbox from new orleans.

i promise it will not be another year before i post again. in the meantime, while you sit at your computers and anxiously await my next blog post (ha!) you should check out pinterest. in case you have been living under rock (like apparently i had been!) pinterest is my new growing addiction, i just found out about it last week and its UH-may-zing. until next time...

i think about blogging all the time, but making time for it is a different story! time is quickly passing me by and there is still SO much stuff to do. but like i was telling dave, at this point, its all trivial. at the end of the day, we will be married. and we will have each other, and thats all that really matters. so im trying not to stress, keyword trying. but we got the invitations in, and i have to give mad props to laura nehls. she is SO creative and does SUCH beautiful work! we really could not be any happier with how they came out.

ok, so again, even though i am still half failing miserably at updating this thing, i have a few quick updates and then some awesome etsy finds.

i keep talking about fixing up kate cotten designs on etsy, and have yet to do it. so i think instead of adding it to the ever-growing to-do list, i am just (sadly!) going to put it off til the new year. i know that sounds forever away. BUT, two months, then two weekends in a row is dave & i's respective "bachelor/bachelorette" weekends. then im going to dallas. then the wedding. then honeymoon. then thanksgiving. then belated reception. then daves birthday. then christmas. then new year. so were going to be slammed, and i am tired of pretending i am going to update kate cotten when the chances are slim! SO, instead i am going to hold on to all my pictures and new items to list, and wait it out, or at least see what happens. who knows, i could end up eating my words and get bored next weekend and upload it all. we shall see, but dont hold your breath.

more and more things are getting crossed off the list for the wedding. and its pretty exciting! the days just seem to be flying by! plus, random coolness-- on tuesday we went up to this show put on by DCI (drum corps international) called Thunder in the Desert with jefferson, ashley, patrick, and tryann. and it was pretty cool. it was nice to get out and do something different! plus, noah and charlotte were being extra precious. and then we headed to the cox's but not before we picked up starbucks of course! and then....we taste-tested some dessert goodies for the wedding. and can i just say (yes, just one more time!) that whimsyandspice is AMAZING. dave is in LOVE with their hazelnut whiskey sandwich cookies, and i would kill for their coconut 5 spice cookies or black pepper and rose thumbprint cookies! and we both viciously fought over their dulce de leche espresso brownies! i STRONGLY suggest for you foodies out there, or hell! those of you who have a sweet tooth, definitely check them out. their goodies may sound intimidating, but seriously, probably some of the best cookies i have ever had!

ok, so i have totally failed on the blog. its not that i forget, or do not want to, i just dont seem to have enough time for anything lately!

but, good news is, this week alone, we have accomplished the centerpieces for the tables for the wedding reception (thanks to my mom, cause she totally rocks and found all these great vases!), daves suit, and talked to the jeweler and picked out his ring, and figured out how were going to make my ring and band work together. and let me tell you, just that has taken a TON of stress of my shoulders. i am finally starting to breathe a little easier!

ok, so please dont judge me for my lack of blogging lately. i promise once i finally get some wedding projects completed and crossed off of my list, ill be back to it like a fiend. i miss my lovely blogging and sharing all my great etsy finds! and im blaming the fact that since i havent been blogging, i dont have an outlet, so instead i have just buying everything i find on etsy like mad!

so todays blog is a short sharing session about my recent wedding plans, etsy buys, and my *finally* completed vintage brooch bouquet! enjoy!

i lucked into finding THE MOST GORGEOUS dress for the rehearsal dinner! hand made by the ever talented iesha of audreyandgrace. just try and tell me that it isnt beautiful! with that special vintage flair? i feel so privileged to be able to wear one of her gorgeous creations!

dave and i came across this amazing vase one night when we were actually searching for boutonnieres, it fits the wedding so perfectly, how could i pass it up?!

one of my favorite finds has been by a talented fellow fun-lovin' texan, courtney of timelessNchic. not only did she make me laugh in all of our traded messages, but she takes these plain picture frames and creates these perfectly "aged" antiqued frames that are just wonderful! my mom and i each purchased a lot from her, and theyre super kick ass! i cant wait to use them at the wedding, and then hang them in my living room!

another one of my finds i am super excited about is by becca of DivineLionesss. everything in her shop is eco-friendly! made without adhesives and all that, and anything that is not biodegradable is either recycled or repurposed. and i had been eyeing her tapioca wood blooms for a while, and finally purchased them! two sets that were planning on putting them on the table with the guest book! we also purchased tags for our favors that are plantable! how sweet is that? so when the guests take the tags home they can plant them and up pop oregano and thyme. awesome!

i also bit off more than i can chew with attempting to take on the task of making our own dinner napkins, and pillows. why would i add yet another project to my list? im not sure. but theyre AWESOME fabrics! even if nothing at the wedding really matches! i found all these great anna maria horner fabrics i liked, and bought each design in two different color schemes. here is a sneak peek of the fabrics:

and last but NOT least, diane of the aptly named etsy shop, DianeA creates the most magnificent multi sided paper ball garden that dave says just reads "casual romance". she creates them all and strings them by hand. i was mesmerized the first time i came across them, as soon as i showed dave he thought they were just the coolest things, so we started thinking of places to put them, and so of course i commissioned her the very next day! i am EXTREMELY excited about all the garland! shes wonderful!

so as you can tell, i am REALLY excited with everything that has been going on for the wedding. of course there is much more but these are my recent favorites! it literally is an all etsy wedding. and i could not be more pleased with it! dave is also pretty pumped about it because like he told me last night, he feels like we have been fortunate enough to "meet" all these great etsy sellers that are helping us make this wedding VERY us. it has our style written all over it, and our personality will be screaming from every nook and cranny! i just love how its all coming together, i have to admit, it makes me giddy!

now, im only sharing this with blog readers first! so get excited! i completed my vintage brooch bouquet last night, and though i am no expert, i am EXTREMELY thrilled with how well i pulled it off! and much as i was cursing and yelling last night when i kept flipping poking myself with the pins, i am SO glad i did it myself. it means that much more to me, that much more to dave, and we can keep it always.

so here it is, after two other rough drafts (first, a moss ball, and then a half circle of styrofoam) i just sat down with some 18 gauge floral wire and an assortment of lovely brooches: half passed down in my family, and half from wonderful etsy sellers! and went to town. i wish i had gotten pictures of it in the making, but i was on a mission! so here are the first sneak peeks...(sorry the pictures arent super fantastic it was late, i was exhausted, and they got taken with the iPhone, and we still have to finish the "handle" of the bouquet) and as always: feedback is appreciated :)

so everyone keeps telling us we need to get on the ball with the wedding registry. which is making me freak out, because i have been trying as hard as possible to ignore that fact, or add even one more thing no matter how big or small to our to-do list. but, i know it will be fun once we get in the mode, or at least thats what everyone keeps telling us. but, can i just say, i love etsy. i am addicted. but i wish they would get on the ball...

i emailed sometime last fall, to the etsy questions and suggestions, and i wrote in that they should have a etsy wedding registry! (how AWESOME would that be!) and they said thank you for the suggestion, they have had other people tell them the same idea, and that they were currently working on it. at the time...i was like i have a whole year until we get married, SWEET ACTION! i can totally register on etsy for the wedding! but its ok...dave and i will register for all the neat stuff we want and then i can keep entertaining myself with me etsy addiction! BUT....hypothetically, if i could register on etsy...check out these sweet finds...enjoy!

its been a while...

it has been a while since my last few posts. everything in my world seems to be getting more and more hectic and stressful. BUT...on a lighter note. a few weeks ago i found a wedding dress. actually, not just a dress but THE dress. its AMAZING! super gorgeous! and yes, i totally cried like a girl when i first saw myself in it. but its just too AWESOME! and very me. streamline and elegant enough to hold to tradition. BUT with a bit of a twist that is OH SO very me. :) i mean come on, did yall really think i would end up with a traditional dress? no way. traditional is not in my vocabulary! and yes, its white. much as i would have loved to make everyones jaw hit the floor when i walked out in a purple dress, it is classic ivory. and KICK ASS. plus, we got to spend time with my parents, which is always awesome. for those of you that dont know this, my mom totally rocks. and dave and my dad went out on the town while we were dress shopping and had fun. plus, my little brother is basically my hero. long story short, i was very glad i got some much needed family time.

and now, i have the dress, and a photographer: who is totally great. and the caterer is stamped! so its a win-win-win situation. AND...im so glad the stress of all the big stuff is out of the way. i mean its going to be amazing, if i do say so myself. seriously, who doesnt want to get married in a beautiful and meaningful location, with a super fun dress, a great photographer, and delicious cajun food. yes, indeed i did say cajun! a sweet little homage to my genealogy. and i mean, i guess the groom is okay too.... lets face it, anyone who can put up with my cynicism, sense of humor, odd fascinations, outlandish personality, and my affinity for all things owls, is pretty much a saint. sure it kinda helps that hes cynical, has a crude sense of humor, fascinated with the weirdest things, and extremely, ridiculously, and hilariously impetuous. ya, im definitely lucky to have such a great best friend and future hubby :)

its been forever since ive blogged, and i have been consumed with finding some new art prints for our house. and today i wanted to show you one of my very FAVORITE artists, the ever talented and macabre Madame Talbot. her work is incredibly detailed and amazingly beautiful. (i know this isnt for everyone, but dave and i are in agreement that she is one of our favorite artists and we would LOVE to own every single poster she has ever done. but its no secret dave and i are a little on the odd side.)

i first featured one of her posters when i was searching on etsy and came upon her mutter museum poster, at that time there wasnt too many more other posters up on their victorianlowbrow etsy page, but of course i marked it as a favorite and intermittently kept checking back in. finally i got curious and found madametalbot on twitter, which lead me to the blog, which lead to the official Madame Talbot website. i have spent hours upon hours on the website, searching through every item from all the posters to vintage tools to human bones and fetal skull dolls, chronicling my favorites, and getting caught up in the little tid bits of history and information that are detailed on some of the items. to see what i mean check out the shrunken head or the black death plague doctor poster.

so this weekend, we are all loading up and trekking down to the ranch for a mini getaway. which, can i just tell you, i think we all need pretty badly. plus, its going to be a total blast. all our friends from odessa, austin, and dallas are meeting in the middle, and i just know there is going to be some ridiculous debauchery going on. plus, the coffee at the ranch, is the BEST EVER. or maybe its just where were drinking it, but either way, im looking forward to seeing everyone, waking up early to help with big ranch breakfasts, delicious coffee, getting away from life for a little bit (no tv, no cell reception) and lets face it...the sunsets at the ranch are unbeatable. and since i refuse to get on a horse (ya, i know, leave me alone!) im packing plenty of books :) super win! so obviously, im jazzed about it, so thus...it inspired today's blog. enjoy!

everything for the wedding is coming together! thank freakin goodness. its about time dave and i got our acts together! and everyone is making me even more excited about it! my friends ashley and monique are making this exceptionally better (even though they could easily be lying through their teeth) they keep telling me how adorable it is, and how perfect it all is for us and its definitely putting me at ease and making me feel really great about it all. so bottom line...if the wedding tanks...im SO blaming them :) just kidding, i love you guys. ill only blame you a little.

so, let me preface this by saying that i definitely did not inherit either of my parents green thumb. their house always is so beautiful and lush, with the most gorgeous plants. and i swear i could kill a cactus. in fact, come to think of it, i have. awesome, go me! i dont know if its because spring is just over the horizon, or the wedding planning, or the fact that i feel like nesting lately...or maybe all three...but i just cannot help but covet all these cute little terrariums i have been finding on etsy lately...i desperately want one. but i am too afraid that i will do something wrong and kill it. and can i just say all these people who are taking terrariums (aka: vivarium, which in latin, literally means "place of life") and turning them into works of art, have all my respect. theyre so pretty! i think i just may need one...once i can talk myself into it. i mean, hello! even our grass is dead as a doornail! enough of my ranting! here are some gorgeous little terrariums for you. enjoy!

can i just say that yes, all my friends love to joke that i am a super hippie. and i will not completely deny that i am not. (i mean, we are having a vintage/owl themed wedding! who does that?) not a day goes by that i do not wear a headband or some other hippie/boho accessory, and i love all old things. (and BEFORE the trend people...ugh) but there was always one thing that just never tickled my fancy...floral patterns. get 'em out! never liked them, they always remind me of quilts and bedspreads. and im just going to go ahead and say, i never had any interest in walking around looking like i was wearing my great grandmas quilt. now....that being said...::sigh:: i think i have been turned to the dark side. without even realizing it, i am being drawn to all the throwback vintage-y looking floral patterns. i know, im not super happy about it, but i cant help it! its just so damn cute! why do i love it so much?! but only certain ones, super vintage looking and bright. so i guess then it makes a little bit of sense...whatever. i need it. its my new thing, selectively, i guess. so i am going to embrace it...enjoy!

so, i am going to be a little selfish today. and to half organize my thoughts in one place, because we keep writing it down, and then it does us zero good because i.....

a) lose the paper

b) spill coffee on said paper

c) never remember what my half-assed abbreviations stand for

d) forget to write down the url of whatever it was that i like, and can never find it again

but, on a lighter note, the colors are all fall colors (deep purple, brown, green, pumpkin, gold, etc) and we already have the cake done (we are doing individual bundt cakes instead of one big monstrous cake and everyone who has tried it so far LOVES it), his suit (dark brown), my dress (once i finally decide! either way its gorgeous and ivory: vintagey too!) the venue (my parents backyard is GORGEOUS rustic and beautiful, with a new orleans feel: shutters, window boxes, etc) the music/dj (i love my friends!), and we are planning our trip to dallas soon to check out caterers and photographers (any help, for those of you who married in dallas would be GREATLY appreciated!) overall, its going to be a gorgeous, low-key (40-50 guests max: our rule is that you have to actually KNOW us: our names, middle names too! birthdays, and how long we have been together), and super rustic with that vintage throwback flair. non-traditional, but very us. bottom line: its going to ROCK! and im FINALLY starting to get all bride-sy and excited!

ok, so i have totally slacked the last two weeks on blogging and twittering/tweeting whatever...damn flu got the best of me. 15 days and counting with the sniffling, sneezing, sore throat, luckily the fever ran its course and im through with that. now if i could just get rid of the hacking cough i would be a happy girl. but not that you guys want to hear any of that...

ok, so let me go ahead and apologize for not posting all flippin week. i have been sick as a dog, and it was not pretty. i didnt do much of anything other than sleep, eat, move from the bed to the couch and back again, and take copious amounts of flu medicine. (ps: i am totally loving the theraflu drink thing...it made my throat feel infinitely better!) i promise i will spare yall all the gory details.

valentines day, you either love it or hate it. before anyone viciously attacks me about commercialism or single's awareness day...just know, i have heard it all. impossible to live in a dorm with 200 other hormonal females and not hear the rants...those who banded together and had the traditional "i $@(*&# hate guys" parties with lots of femmefatal movies and booze, and end up crying in their pillow. to those who spent HOURS upon HOURS getting ready and spend TONS at salons to look perfect and spend all this time reconstructing some mushy scene from earlier in their relationship. either way...who said valentines day is just for couples? i am all about sending valentines to your best girl friend, your long lost roommate, nieces, nephews, you name it.

now, i will say, dave and i have never had a successful valentines day, he always gets stuck working, and i usually treat myself to starbucks and watch some crappy reality tv and fall asleep early. but, that doesnt stop us from doing a little something or other for each other. the last few years i have just made him some yummy dessert i dont usually make throughout the year, and he will get me a little trinket of sorts. so here are some of my favorite valentines picks...enjoy!

ok, so if you follow my blog, surely by now you know that our wedding is *gasp* all of 283 days away. which is still plenty of time. but its like...oh were not getting married for another 2 years...oh we still have a year and a half, oh a year is plenty of time, and now its like...oh *$%@ we have 9 months. so im on a mission to start getting down to business. and do not think we dont thank our lucky stars that my mother is awesome and already on the ball with it all. i have no worries about how beautiful it is going to be, shes has exquisite taste. plus, i mean, all that really matters at the end of the day, i still have dave :)

for those of you that know me well, know that i have coffee table book after coffee table book about designing, vintage finds, decorating, and anything else that gives me ideas about eclectic and vintage-esque decor. i have many favorites among them, and find great ideas from most all designers, but i have never found a designer that so elegantly and precisely defines, in my own personal opinion, the epitome of style. until now. i am IN LOVE with designer Betsy Burnham of Burnham Design. her style is chic, expressive, eclectic and elegant all at the same time. she creates gorgeous interiors that truly showcase a unique personal style.

so, i know its weird, but i have this thing with dishes. yes, dishes. i think its inherited because my mom collects dishes. anywho...so we have this beautiful round wood table that we inherited because it was a ranch house cast out. and i desperately would love to make it pretty and set it...BUT, it would get junked so fast, and i am worried the guys would break something. since we dont have a dining room table....ill just have to daydream about it for now, keep collecting my plates (as long as Dave doesnt kill me since were running out of cabinet space) and eventually when we move ill have my pretty table...for now...ill just have to stare at all the pretty items on etsy to get my fix....here are todays etsy table top picks, enjoy!

been perusing the etsy message boards all day. found some really great information. im ordering some giclee prints of my paintings later this week, and i couldnt be more hyped!

there has been a lot of crazy things going on in our lives, and my beautiful fiance has been my rock. he keeps me grounded when my head is in the clouds, when i feel like im drowning he keeps me sane. he is pretty much the best thing i could have ever hoped for, and i feel so lucky to have a guy like him in my life. have you ever loved someone so much its almost debilitating...ya, sucks doesnt it? and super amazingly awesome all at the same time. so (ill pause while you gag at my mushy rant) today is all about the lovey dovey stuff....enjoy!

so seeing that is is new years eve, and as of midnight, its a whole new year bringing its own round of joyous occassions (only 303 days til the big day!) and pitfalls and hurdles to overcome i googled my horoscope...

seriously. best. christmas. ever.

truly, best christmas ever. it was an absolute blast. me and dave got spoiled ROTTEN! it was awesome. among my favorites are my new hp mini laptop and my sony ereader and dave got a fully stocked fish tank, its huge! with stand and all...fluval, currents, live rock, nets, hoses, water, fish, and a whole mess of other things that i have no idea what its used for, but basically we are fully stocked and dont need anything but more fish if we want it. and i got dave a grill. well, grill is an understatement. an outdoor kitchen of sorts. with heating drawers, lights, all that stuff...check it out...

dave thinks its sexy... 7ft tall, almost 9ft long, and 500+lbs. so he better freakin love it! and make me delicious food on it. grilled shrimp, please! anywho...the holidays with my family were a super win. dad and dave made a horseradish smothered beef tenderloin, and we just hung around all day. it was hilarious watching dad try to play call of duty. other than holiday festivities, we ate at the best place ever...henks real german food in the middle of dallas. dave and i both got the hot amsterdam...dutch ham, dutch gouda, horseradish, and dave got sauerkraut. most delicious meal ever....weird picture to share i know...but the hot and spicy german potato salad was a super win!

i got to see my very favorite mister ryon buchman, we ate some alligator tail and saw avatar in 3D which was...AMAZINGLY KICK ASS. truly! i didnt even want to see...i totally loved it! and 3D was awesome. me, dave, and walker went to the bodies exhibit in downtown dallas. anyone heard of it? heres the website. and heres a picture...

it was amazing. we all loved it. but i am not going to say much since its a controversial topic. but let me say this...if you are interested, definitely take the time out and go see it. we also went to the dallas aquarium, which of course the boys went crazy over since they now appreciate it more, having their own saltwater tanks. but my favorites were the cute little baby penguins, the manatee, the leopard, and of course...the owl. he was my friend! he was facing away from everyone. people in front of us were complaining that they couldnt even see the owl, and as soon as i walk up he turns around and poses for me! here he is...mr. handsome!

plus a thousand other fun things! it was the best trip dave and i have taken to dallas. and the best christmas ever! i hope all of you had a very merry holidays and got to spend time with the people you love most! now...lets hope 2010 is an amazing year for us all! cheers!
